Welcome to ACES WEEKLY Volume 26, Week Six!
If you're a long-term comics reader, it probably won't have escaped your notice that the long-running British comic, 2000AD, is celebrating its 40th birthday this year! What relatively few people know about this stalwart of UK comics is that it was given birth because the executives were out of the building at the time. I'm talking metaphorically, there. 2000AD was the result of creative people having their heads to do things in a liberated manner that was off the norm. In a roughly similar instant, it's known that the very particular storytelling approach that Stan Lee took leading to the success of Marvel's 60's incarnation, came about because he gave himself the freedom to do things in a liberated manner, not a conventional one. What's this all got to do with Aces Weekly? Well, we do just the same as Stan and the generators of 2000AD did, except freedom has always been our policy - the executives are not only in the building, they're making the tea and taking the cakes round. We hope freedom is your cup of tea, too...: )
