Friends, welcome back to the crazy world of Aces Weekly, which we think of these days as an almost idyllic haven from the even crazier world that currently surrounds us! This volume we proudly continue a bunch of great series we've debuted in our pages, including among them the truly unique creation of Martin Cater, Lightning 5! Subscribers new to us will not have seen the words from Martin describing the origin of his unusual work, so I'm replaying them here : ' I grew up surrounded by the works of Gerry Anderson, as seen on TV, in books, in comics, and in toys. Some of my first drawings were of Thunderbirds, and by the age of 8, I was creating my own comics. Ten years later, I conceived the notion of making a puppet film, with an 8mm movie camera. The film never materialised, and forty years later all that remained of it was a bag of Anderson-esque head sculpts. Coming across them recently, it occurred to me that with a bit of photo-manipulation they could become the cast of a new type of comic strip. Anderson is an obvious influence, but so too is Dan Dare. When I first saw photos of Frank Hampson surrounded by head sculpts of his characters and models like the Mars Space Station. I thought it a shame those detailed models were rarely seen in the strips. So here is a strip composed entirely of models, toys and dolls, produced in 'Photomarionation'. I hope it works! ' Enjoy Martin's mad talent, everyone, along with the mad talents of all our other fantastic Aces this volume, as we begin our usual 7 week trip into the amazing... : )
