Welcome to ACES WEEKLY Volume 72, Week Five!
Friends, We've just completed our presentation of The Right Place : a story which, in other circumstances, would have easily fit into a modern drama slot for any tv company anywhere. Republished from the Italian original, Federico Zilli's graphic novel is a clear example of what can be done with comics outside of its commonly-perceived limits, and with equal effectiveness to any other form of storytelling. Though expressed through the use of a realist but minimalist art technique, the exactly perfect choices were always made in revealing the emotions and interaction of the characters. A camera wouldn't have done it better - just taken longer. Minimalist effect is one of the great strengths comics can apply to its subject, along with the strengths of great detail it can utilize for some other subject, or abstract and expressionistic storytelling for something else. Different art for all kinds and all uses. Some part, or all of that, is what we always have here at Aces Weekly in the mad mix of all our volumes, and I must say I'm always proud to present it! And, of course, I'm proud to have such a smart bunch of subscribers to appreciate it all... : ) Stay safe, all!
