Welcome to ACES WEEKLY Volume 23, Week Seven!

Yesterday was the birthday of the late, great, Jack Kirby - recognised as one of the most masterful and influential creators in the comic medium. But that recoginition is not universal amongst all those who read and enjoy comics. Jack Kirby was a champion to all those who loved the area of the medium that he mainly worked in, but he held lower status in the eyes of those who appreciated other uses of comics storytelling. But Jack Kirby's skills were many. The reason I'm talking about him here, apart from wanting to make my own tribute to his work in proximity to yesterday's anniversary, is that I've been using a panel of his art as a visual aid during the many talks I give about Aces Weekly in various venues. It points out the amazing skill Jack Kirby had of portraying movement and action - the skill he became most famous for. I use it in answering the question I'm often asked about our commitment to the simplicity of putting great comic art as it is on screen instead producing ' motion comics '.  This panel of Jack's demonstrates that the art of comics already has all the tools needed to produce all the motion needed to tell a great story, and that to compromise this asset by added animation effects is to fail to recognise the full value of what comics can do and have been doing for decades without any help needed.  It's a great aid for me to use - and always does the job.  Thank you, Jack : )
